Learn the Benefits of Walking
The sun is shining and it has definitely warmed up outside. One of my favorite activities this time of year is to walk outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of Spring. Walking is not only one of the most convenient exercises, it has many benefits for your health and wellness, too.
- Improve Your Heart Health. Just 30 minutes a day of walking has been shown to improve blood pressure and reduce your risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, according to the American Heart Association. Grab a coworker and walk during your lunch break, walk your dog after dinner or walk while your kids are at their sprting events.
- Boost your Mood. Walking, along with many other forms of exercise, is beneficial as a natural remedy for depression since it helps release “feel good” hormones in your brain, such as endorphins. Want an even bigger boost? Walk outdoors and boost your vitamin D levels for an effective and easy way to feel happier every single day.
- Improve Brain Health. Going for regular walks has been associated with a decrease in Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and memory loss.
